Emotional Deprivation: A general term for any situation where an individual is deprived of emotional reactions from others. It is used almost exclusively of children who are raised in situations lacking in love, affection, and contact.

The Penguin Dictionary of Psychology, Arthur S. Reber, 1985, page 236

* Note: Based on my experience, unless recognized emotional deprivation’s impact can be emotional unavailability that negatively impacts one’s ability to develop healthy emotional relationships unless recognition and healing take place.
