We are all born into the human race, but over time, and depending on our circumstances, find ourselves in a community, such as our family, neighborhood, community, school, and workplace.
And, of course, we are a citizen of the country where we are born.
We know all relationships need good boundaries to function healthily, but how rigid our boundaries become determines how we view our citizenship and how we will act or not act.
Belonging is important to each of us, but not all people have the luxury of naturally belonging to the groups many of us take for granted … but if we all acted on the idea we are all global citizens the world we share with every person would make for a better world for all of us.
