Stage 1 Completed for TED Talk … Great and Appropriate References Secured!

When one has many great people in their lives, sometimes it is challenging to decide who to ask to speak on our behalf as a reference.

But then again, what makes the choice easier is picking people who can provide a more objective view of us, especially with regard to what we need him or her to speak to others about our talents and skills.

As much as we love our family and friends, objectivity, for a specific role and responsibility we are undertaking, may not be something they can address without subjective bias, positive or negative.

On that note, let me introduce you to two very different women I have met over the years.

Kim and I met during my short stint at another Toastmasters’ club in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Dynamic and assured on stage as well in life, Kim’s 30 year career as a Prop Master in the Canadian film and television industry recently led her to purchase and renovate a chalet and offering it as a retreat venue to creative groups

Teresa and I met during a poetry reading night in Kincardine, Ontario where I had returned in 2011 to be with my dad for his remaining years.

Gentle and eloquent, Teresa’s poetry and her readings resonated deeply with the poet I still want to be.

Teresa is the kind of teacher most of us wish we had … kind, encouraging, and creative. And my recent discovery that she also studied machine shop and worked with metal, ramped up my admiration for her because one day I also hope to use metal in my visual artwork.

Throughout my personal and professional life, I have been greatly blessed with meeting a very diverse group of people that opened my mind to a world I had not yet experienced, for which I am very grateful.

Thankfully too, I know I have not yet met all the wonderful people my new home, Mendocino Country on California’s North Coast will acquaint me with and that my company/global initiative, Connecting The Dots With The Respect Principle, will introduce me to as well, several of which will join my company as we work together to transform respect from a discretionary value to a global principle!
