This is a poem I wrote when my sojourn began. What a long, arduous journey it is to reclaim one’s self after experiences and naive judgments erroneously guide us to give up our identity to please others in order to be accepted.
DUSTED DREAMS
Took you down off the high shelf,
found you buried in the attic,
rooted through the basement,
and scoured the closets too.
Found you in all kinds of places,
tucked into little nooks and crannies,
shoved aside everywhere.
Brought you all back into the open,
all the little pieces hidden away,
put them all back together,
and unlike Humpty Dumpty
put myself back together again.
