When I first conceptualized “Respect as a Principle” to address …

Talking about my idea to an acquaintance, she asked me, “What if someone stole your idea?”

I smiled and replied, “That would prove they did not get the concept.”

With the concept initially recorded several years ago as the idea behind the non-profit corporation I founded as “It is All About Respect, Inc.” I closed the non-profit and renamed the initiative, “Connecting The Dots With The Respect Principle,” and registered the company as my sole proprietorship that will one day become a Limited Liability Partnership.

From the beginning I attracted encouragement from several people, but I also attracted naysayers. What surprised me the most though were the people who wanted to take my work and run with it … without paying for my years of study, research, and experience, nor my creative efforts in discovering, naming, and writing based on the concept. And the people who wanted to take my work were professionals who saw the potential and wanted to take the credit as well as infringe on my copyright for their gains. A few memorable examples include a friend, who obviously was not a friend, a social worker, a community organization employee, and a consultant.

I used to worry about the theft of over 25 years work, but thankfully, as someone who has finally put my faith in God and His protection, because this was His idea anyway when I yelled at Him during my dark night of the soul and demanded, “If you exist, give me a purpose or take me home!” now I do not.

So, here I still am, 25 years later, healed and prepared to go all the way transforming respect from a discretionary value to a global principle by helping people to understand why the concept … the idea … the philosophy is sound … logical, practical, and compassionate.

Understanding the Big Picture of “Sowing and Reaping”

Limited minds and experiences often don’t understand the full scope of sowing and reaping.

I certainly did not. In my youth, when my lack of truthful knowledge about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, plus very harmful experiences turned me away from God, I had no idea of the real consequences. Then, and for years later, as I worked my way back to Him, I sought to understand why He did not prevent what happened to me, starting in childhood. I could not fathom why He allowed me to become so devastated and depressed most of my life. And even when I cried out to Him 25 years ago and said, “Take me home or give me a purpose,” I had no idea of the work I would have to do and He would have to do in and through me as He brought me back to my true self.

Because I had grown so weary, for some time, I have asked Him to take me home (suicide never an option … the only good thing that came out of my Catholic upbringing because with my experiences I thought earth was hell and I wanted to be freed from it, not live in it for eternity). Last night was no different as I cried a little more, but stopped because I know He wants me to stop crying and just keep doing as He has asked. I think of all that has to be done, the money, the people, and I stumble in faith … but this morning He answered my prayer by using the words from a pastor I don’t usually watch.

As I was flipping through the channels I paused on Triumph Church as the pastor said, “This message is for someone who needs to hear this right now. You need to stay and pass on, anoint your successor as Elija did Elisha.” The message uplifted my spirit and soul, knowing deep down it was the answer to my prayer … that all my hardships and efforts were not, are not, in vain, that they will serve as the foundation for others to build upon. And as for me, I will be able to pass the lead role on so I can enjoy the life He promised as a creative writer, artist, and much more, including being a loving wife for the rest of my days. Now that’s some sowing and reaping! Amen!

Interestingly, I experienced bouts of success, but never felt successful, because in retrospect, initially I did not know I had choices, trusting others to tell me what was right … what they valued … which was my biggest mistake … failure ever.

Therefore, one of the first priorities to teach youth … discover your natural talents and then discover the options to develop and sell them, as well as don’t be afraid to try and fail because failure teaches what success cannot.
