SOCIAL BUSINESS VENTURES DEFINED

A social business venture is a business venture filling a social need.

In Canada, there is no legal distinction between for-profit and non-profit social business ventures because in Canada social business ventures legally must be non-profits organizations.

However, in several of the states of America, including California, there are legal distinctions between non-profits and for-profits, particularly that for-profit organizations legally commit to giving a percentage away to social causes, which is the planned mandate for my for-profit social business venture, Connecting the Dots … with The Respect Principle.

Why not just be a non-profit organization?

  1. To ensure all rights to the intellectual capital created by the company stay with the company until transferred to the planned foundation to continue with the company’s social development mandate until no longer required.
  2. To ensure the company maintains its mandate as a social business venture to assist with social development and not just a private enterprise for profit-making only for a few individuals.

Is the company incorporated?

  1. No, nor will it be in order to maintain all intellectual capital ownership.
  2. Instead, a partnership, like many other creative companies, especially film companies, is the preferred choice.

Please note the other important reason for maintaining ownership of all intellectual property is to respect … value the contribution of the developer, founder, and president by providing the financial, as well as, altruistic reward for the years of study, research, experience, development, and creation, not just of the Connecting the Dots … with The Respect Principle concept, but also the development of all the intellectual property and the for-profit social business venture.
