Democracy, the Freedom Experiment, Is At Risk

Anything can be used for good or evil.

For instance, information technology, when used for good connects us across distances, saves us from having to go places by enabling us to do errands, and even work remotely. For businesses, they have more ways to reach us, pitch us their product, and with the data collected by our IT usage, they can identify our needs and wants, even create them for their own profit. But people and companies can also breach security and confidentially beyond the laws for their own gain.

Any group, small or large, can and do do the same thing for their own advantage.

Capitalism … The Idea and the Reality

In a capitalistic-driven society, individuals are encouraged to be independent, to generate wealth, especially vast amounts of wealth and to be admired for their their accomplishments, many of which have little or no regard for the many who have not or have not been driven as they have. However, not paying wages at or not above the poverty level, not providing benefits, and not paying their fair share of taxes based on the profits they make reveals the dark side of capitalism that has little or no moral conscience.

Socialism Is Not Communism and Was Designed For Good, But …

Socialism’s original intent was intended to balance the many imbalances born of rabid capitalism without a conscience that left many of a nation’s people poor, unhealthy, and abused. But as with other systems of thought or ideals, there were people who turned what was meant for good into evil by seizing all goods and dispensing it sparingly to the people the nation governed, which is now defined as communism, making capitalism an ideal to strive for, which is why, in droves, people from around the world do their best to make their way to countries, especially the United States that once most strongly represented the capitalism ideal.

Democracy … The Intent, the Experiment, and the Current Dilemma

To balance the extreme capitalism ideal of the United States, democracy, as well as capitalism are embodied in The Constitution, and to some degree also in other capitalistic-driven countries, such as Canada.

Democracy is supposed to ensure all of a nation’s people can have their say by voting, but even today that right in the United States, is being challenged by those in power who want to stay in power by whatever means, once again demonstrating clearly how something intended for good, democracy, is now being used for evil.

The Price Being Paid for Extremism Ideals

Because we have learned that anything often taken to the extreme is unhealthy and often causes great harm, we have to not only ask the difficult questions, we must be relentless in digging out the whole truth. In other words, we must as citizens with the power to vote, do what is called in the business world “due diligence” to see both the details and the big picture in order for us to make the best choices, not just for ourselves, but for our families, communities, nations, and yes, even globally … because what we choose or don’t choose does affect all of our circles of influence.

After realizing that extremism can be dangerous when it is selfish, for our own good too, we must be open to examining what has been and why it may not be working as it was intended so we can adjust what needs to be adjusted for optimal performance.

Would you run a vehicle into the ground because you choose to disregard the engine’s warning? Would you run your health into the ground because you choose to disregard your body’s and even your doctor’s warning signs? Would you put your pregnancy or child at risk because you did not want to be bothered with signs of something not being right?

We would not if we valued … respected our transportation, health, or child.

Today, around the world, and crucially in the United States right now, we have to take into consideration that rampant capitalism without a social conscience is selfish, bullish, and immoral. Immoral capitalism is no different from other forms of tyrannical concepts and people who exploited the masses for their own gain.

Does this mean socialism in its original form is desired? No. However, what it does mean is that socialism, like capitalism, can be adapted for the times because of raised awareness of the impact of the extremes.

We also have to accept that we are still learning and growing individually and collectively as a species.

Debunking Myths

For instance, we have to debunk the myth that meritocracy, the idea that with capitalism everyone has an equal chance to amass great wealth, is not only false, it is not something everyone actually wants because not everyone values money above all else. Plus, some people even see those with great wealth as money idolizers who care nothing for anyone or anything besides themselves and their wealth. Of course, there are the exceptions, but their numbers are small in comparison.

Besides, not everyone wants to get rich for the sake of getting rich … they want a rich life … a life rich with love, balance, health, and decent incomes to meet their needs and some of their wants provided by those who need the masses’ labour for their entrepreneurial enterprises, keeping in mind that anything less than providing wages at least at the poverty line is anan abuse of power and a form of enslavement resulting from imbalance.

Yet there are people who fear the empowerment of people because they fear what people will do when they are truly free to choose … who to vote for, work for, buy from, and where to live. Yet this is what our western world touts as right, but once again, those who feel threatened are those who are fearful and therefore want to generate fear to keep control over people.

Enlightenment comes from paying attention, not just to ourselves, but also to the world around us. There will always be people who will need to be cared for because of intellectual, mental, physical limitations, illness or age. They need our compassion and caring as well as financial assistance to ensure their quality of life is not substandard to those who can take care of themselves. With the wealth in our free nations, there should be no outcry of paying a fair share of taxes for the benefits the wealthy … and even the middle class enjoy.

The Take Away

More than politics, religion, or any other belief system should not overpower or override our awareness that what we do impacts us as well as everyone else. And what we believe is always subject to modification as we learn and grow, not just in intellectual intelligence, but also our emotional intelligence, that when combined transforms us into not just self-seeking individuals, but individuals who realize life is so much more than just about us … it’s about all of us.

An Old Story For the Present

Once upon a time a frog stood on the edge of a pond readying itself for its pending swim. A scorpion walked up to the frog and asked, “Can I have a ride to the other side?” Naturally, the frog quickly replied, “No! You’ll sting me and we will both drown!” But the scorpion persisted and argued, “No, I won’t because then I would die too!” Against the frog’s better judgment, the frog gave in and agreed so the scorpion climbed onto the frog’s back. Not too far from shore, the frog cried out, “You promised!” As the frog and scorpion slipped below the water’s surface, the scorpion replied, “I am what I am.”

Thankfully, we are more than what we may have or still do believe because humans are a species with the ability to learn, adapt, and realize more of our extraordinary potential. We do not have to allow good ideas to be transformed into evil. We forged nations based on democracy. We can change the culture that exploits the masses for the benefit of a few. We can employ socialism’s best qualities to help others without giving up capitalism’s good qualities. We can change the culture that has come to idolize the rich and their wealth by thanking them for their entrepreneurship that created jobs and living wages by doing our jobs well, without frustration, resentment, or jealousy … even with gratitude and satisfaction.

We have the power to combine the best qualities of democracy, socialism, and capitalism for our individual benefit, our nation’s benefit, and our global nation’s benefit. What are the rewards you ask? Peace, safety, and security, plus wellness born of the development of our unique potential development for work and life satisfaction.

What happens next is up to us. We have freedom’s power to choose, so let us choose wisely and set a good example at home and around the world.

PEOPLE First … MONEY Second

We may not like politics, but since politicians make decisions impacting the quality of our lives, we need to do our part.

Suze Orman, an American financial guru’s philosophy is, “People first, money second.”

To me this sums up the strategy of addressing people’s needs first because of the consequences of not addressing those needs that will simply multiply over time when not addressed.

As for balancing a budget, we know it is important, but not at any cost, especially costs that will eventually escalate because of needs not being addressed. Some people have the knowledge and wisdom to be able to do both … we just need to give them time to work out both … plus give them room to make mistakes too because, well, it’s a way of leading that is logical, practical, and compassionate.

“EVIL THRIVES WHEN Good People Do Nothing”

A recent municipal election here in a small community in Canada recorded the lowest voting level of just under 26%.

Hopefully, in the United States tomorrow, good people will step up and record the best voting ever to reveal what American value most … social accountability too rather than just money.

Sad thing for us in the province Ontario in Canada is coming to terms with the same mentality that empowered the new conservative Ford government that is also driven by the dollar sign rather than the combination of fiscal responsibility and social accountability.

Any one-sided perspective that does not allow other people to choose based on their free will … is not a symbol of freedom, but a symbol of one person or group’s need to have everyone be like them so they feel okay with their beliefs.

The most powerful leaders do not lead by fear, but by the strength of their character … their beliefs … their heart … and compassion for those they lead … yet also serve by leading.

The “Connecting the Dots … with The RESPECT PRINCIPLE” concept was designed to surpass the barriers of religion, politics, race, etc. because as evidenced by the world, humanity struggles with the concept of valuing … respecting … others who are not in agreement with them, who do not reflect their choices, with believing they have to like or approve of everyone in the world.

Valuing … respecting a person or a group of people simply means to live and let live … to be humane .. to help others less fortunate than ourselves … to protect those who cannot protect themselves … to actively engage in the world we live … connecting the dots that reveals the big picture … what we do to others or do not do will impact our own lives somewhere down the line.

Based on The Bible, the living word Christians believe in, other than Christmas, and even more so, this is the most important two days of the year … when Christ was crucified on Good Friday and was resurrected on Easter Sunday.

If we could grow past our history … if we could at least unite and adopt the one concept, that all life is valuable … worthy of respect … we could obliterate the prejudices that not only separate us and compel some people to harm, imprison, and even kill those who don’t share their beliefs, we could create an economic balance previously unseen and would empower the human race to move past the limitations imposed by prejudices.

Making someone wrong through prejudice does not make someone else right … it makes two wrongs.

When we are willing to see beyond ourselves, we start to connect the dots and see the bigger picture of the world … and when we start to see our place in the world as someone valuable … entitled to respect for just being a life, we gain the ability to see others the same way … and we see our place in the world as valid and important as everyone else … because regardless of what you have, own, take … we all come into this world in the same way and we go out the same way … with nothing but what is in our hearts and minds. If we do not give other people the freedom and right to choose their own beliefs that do not harm others, then what we have is not freedom … instead we are bound by the prison of prejudice till we free others … and ourselves.

Though I was raised a Catholic, for several reasons I rejected the religion at an early ago and studied other religions and philosophies. In fact, so influenced by our culture’s strong reliance, almost religious fanaticism on science and my negative experiences with religion, the “Connecting the Dots … with The RESPECT PRINCIPLE” was developed because of its logic, practicality, and even its dispassionate compassion.

Still, I found the concept, like many other religions and philosophies, did not satisfy a deeper yearning inside of me … the more profound that seeks deeper answers … so in the past few years I returned to Christianity by studying The Bible for myself and surprises abounded … especially surprises that generated freedom from judging and condemning others, peace, hope, and more positive feelings than I have ever experienced in my lifetime. I share this because I know from experience how both concepts, one scientific and philosophical and the other spiritual, not religious, are transforming me from being a hurt, frustrated, depressed, fearful, and angry woman into a healed, whole, more peaceful, and if not always loving, at least a respectful woman … who values other people and their differences and who works to find ways to bring more peace to the world, to encourage the ongoing development of potential, and to help us all connect to co-create a better world for each and every person … because both concepts have taught me everyone comes into this world with unique gifts, talents, and abilities intended to contribute to good of the whole … if we show them how by example and by our support.

This Easter weekend, my question is “What have your beliefs taught and yielded for you?”

Standing Up Against Bullying … Aggression … Tyranny Costs, But …

But not standing up costs a lot more … if people had acted sooner, Adolf Hitler would not have been able to inflict the horror on the millions of people … not only in concentration camps, but all around the world.

Peace is always the goal but for peace to be attainable, Respect Levels must rise beyond what they have been and what they are now.

How they will rise is by people Connecting the Dots … with The RESPECT PRINCIPLE because it is not based on any qualifier … politics … religion … social status … race … etc.

A life is a life and taking one, except out of protection and to stop bullying … aggression … tyranny demonstrates not only the lowest Respect Level for other people, but also for one’s self … because when one truly values … respects … his or her self, a person is then capable of valuing other lives and no longer requires the need to control others to feel okay about themselves.

My prayers, and hopefully many other people’s prayers tonight, will go out not only to the soldier shot point-blank outside Canada’s Parliament today, but for those who inflicting such horror … so their pain will ease and they will see clearly that bullying … aggression … tyranny … and hate only begets violence for their violence.

You pick … Putin, Napolean, Hitler, Caesar … from the history of “takers”

Taking what is not yours shows the disrespect you have for life … others and yours.

Taking by violent force what is not yours reveals the violence in your heart.

What was done to you, is what you do … until you know better … until you finally believe that you are valuable all on your own, without what you own defining you.

All the countries, people and possessions you think you own, in fact own you because you need them to feel valued … respected in a world still unconsciously driven by the Disrespect Philosophy where we are taught none of us are valuable unless someone or some group says we are by meeting their standards, qualifications, expectations …

When you finally stand in the truth of who you are as a unique individual with a high RESPECT LEVEL, you will no longer need to possess what is not yours, but instead will take the best care of your own self … and in that way, you will serve … and as a result … receive as a gift what you desire … instead of having to steal what is not yours to have.

Raising the RESPECT LEVEL in Long-Term Care (Nursing) Homes for Seniors

Just finished an Urgent Call for Immediate Action letter addressed to both Ministers of Health, Canada, Rona Ambrose and Ontario, Deb Matthews. Emailed the letter to the local Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson’s office and they will forward it to their contact … who will get it to the people … who will get it to the Ministers.

Thanks to all for your help and patience while I researched the protocol for managing the care of residents’ hearing aids, eyewear and other personal devices in long-term care homes so I could provide some viable solutions to increase the RESPECT LEVEL of care of our seniors … catalyzed by the need to prevent the loss and damage to our Dad’s replacement hearing aid arriving in the next few weeks … that will replace the two lost and damaged aids (value $4000.00) in January. Still working on getting his eyeglasses (value $273) replaced if his benefit will allow access to the remaining $127 of his two-year benefit … which I hope, hope, hope.

Immediate Challenge … changing government protocol in senior residences to …

… increase the RESPECT LEVEL urgently needed in senior residences, particularly long-term (nursing) homes, to more effectively manage and protect residents’ very expensive hearing aids and eyewear necessary for their everyday quality of life … before bringing Dad’s new replacement hearing aid and glasses into his long-term care residence.

That’s all for the blog today because I have lots of other writing to do … including for the above. Have a good night. And thanks for dropping by!

Best wishes.
